WITH OCTOBER drawing to a close, a marked chill has edged the air across the State heralding the onset of winter. Both day and night temperatures have shown a decrease over the last few days, making citizens feel chill during early mornings and nights.
The minimum temperature in Indore plummeted to a cool 13.2 degrees Celsius on the night intervening Thursday and Friday – recording the lowest in the State.
Although afternoons still continue to be hot, the harshness of the sun has certainly decreased and wind throughout the day
has become comparatively cooler.
Regional Meteorological Centre Director Dr D P Dubey said the drop in temperatures indicate the onset of winter and the mercury is expected to plunge further during the next week, albeit gradually. He said the very clear sky has added to the situation and the chill in the air was being felt distinctly.
November, December and January are the main winter months in Central India and by the end of October indications of winter are felt. This year too, the weather had been quite warm and uncomfortable until before Diwali. However, after the festival, the air assumed a distinct chill.
In the capital too, the change in weather can be felt very distinctly. Over the last seven days, day temperature has gone down by about three degrees and night temperatures by around two degrees. The fall in temperatures is expected to continue over next week.

{{/usCountry}}On Friday, Bhopal recorded a maximum of 30.4 degrees Celsius - a degree below normal and minimum of 16.9 (normal temperature). Indore recorded 32.6 and 13.2, Gwalior - 32.0 and 17.8 and Jabalpur - 31.0 and 17.2 degrees Celsius.
