As per reports available till now, most districts recorded deficit rainfall, which was alarming, Agriculture Secretary Vijendra Singh said after members visited Hazaribagh, Ramgarh and Chatra.

The team found khariff crop could not be revived at this stage as no seedling was raised, he said.

Chouparan block in Hazaribagh was the worst hit with only 5 per cent paddy being transplanted and no hope of revival of the crop, Singh said.

The team, which arrived on Wednesday, also inspected ponds which had dried up.

The team will discuss the matter at the Inter Ministry Group meeting and then submit its report to the Finance Ministry for release of funds.

The state government had given a correct picture of the drought situation prevailing in the state, Singh said.

The state has been asked to take up a contingency plan to compensate loss of Khariff crop with central assistance.
