Unlike the supporters of Yoga guru Baba Ramdev's anti-corruption campaign at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, the city witnessed an unusual protest by two youths who climbed on a pole after having pegs of liquor and dared police to shoot them.
The two men from Delhi, aged 22-23, climbed on a 60-metre high-tension pole at Shankar Chowk here on Monday night and dared police to shoot them if they want to stop their demonstrations against corruption.
It took around two hours for the fire department to get them back on the ground safely. One of the protestors has done hotel management course from Australia while his companion is a graduation student of Delhi University.
According to a fire department official they got a call at 3.15 am Tuesday about the incident and a rescue team reached the spot immediately.
“The boys were shouting and protesting against the politicians and police’s action in Ramlila Maiden where several protesters were injured,” a fire department official said.
“They were telling that if the government does not like their protest then police can shoot them. The drama went on for more then two hours till the rescue team brought them down with the help of a hydraulic platform as others were engaged in convincing him to come down,” the official said. The youngsters were handed over to police who released them after giving some warning.
