For a life without the mess
THE DISTRICT administration has decided to revive the defunct District Traffic Council (DTC) to help streamline the traffic system and ease congestion on the roads.
The district magistrate will head the DTC. The SSP, the SP, the CO Traffic and eminent citizens of the city will be among its prominent members. The revival of the DTC is being accorded the highest priority as traffic jams for prolonged hours are a routine affair.
ASP Rajesh Modak has been appointed the project’s nodal officer.
The district administration has already identified five busy city crossings, which are known for traffic jams. These crossings include Badachauraha and Zarib Chowki. Both these crossings witness heavy movement of traffic. A commuter in the heart of the city has to pass through the Badachauraha, while the one living on the city outskirts and moving towards GT Road has to pass through the Zarib Chowki crossing.
A proposal has been forwarded to constitute five separate teams to study the complex nature of the flow of traffic at these five crossings. The movement of traffic, its complex pattern and reasons for frequent traffic jams at the five crossings will be analysed through a detailed study. The teams deputed on crossings will also seek public opinion in this respect.

Talking to HT, ASP Rajesh Modak said, “The DTC is extremely powerful and once it comes into force, traffic-related problems of the city will be eased by 25 per cent with immediate effect.”
