After producing a brilliant display to win the 50m Women's para-swimming Freestyle final, South Africa's Natalie Du Toit announced that this will be her last Commonwealth Games (CWG).
The 26-year-old, who had to have her knee amputated in 2001 following a car accident after a swimming practice session, also revealed that she will quit competitive swimming after the London Olympics in 2012.
“London will be my last competition and this is my last CWG. I've still got the 100m Butterfly and the 100m Freestyle to come so I will go out and give it everything.”
Du Toit,who shot to fame at the 2002 Manchester Games has now won five Commonwealth gold-medals in addition to her six Olympic crowns.
“The Games have been amazing for me, going to Manchester and getting the positive publicity, and now in my fourth and final Games I have to go out and give my best and then hopefully pass on the mantle to some other girls.”
She also admitted she has loved her time in Delhi so far and feels the pre-tournament criticism was exaggerated in the media.
“Delhi for me has been amazing. All the reports of how the village was, I haven't seen any of that. Everybody has stepped up to the plate and the security has been amazing. I have to complement India on the great CWG that we’ve had so far,” she said.
