The 19-year-old Indian, ranked 38th in the world, could not stop the onslaught by Hingis, who is making a comeback to competitive tennis after remaining out for almost three years due to a foot injury.

Hingis, 25, is currently 48th in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) rankings and won the 2006 Australian Open mixed doubles with India's Mahesh Bhupathi apart from reaching the singles quarter-finals of the event.

Sania made headlines in Dubai last year when she beat 2004 US Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia after gaining a wild card entry.
