A police team from Radhidiyah on Friday broke the lock of the room where Karthik 24, Julian 30, and Govindan, 25—all hailing from Tamil Nadu—had been locked up.

The police action came after the Indian Consulate in Dubai intervened in the matter based on a tip off from their colleagues in the Dubai National Construction Company.

"The company has not paid us salary for the last three months. The three ran away four days ago and were found working for another company in Al Khawaneej area. The company traced them and took them forcibly on Thursday night to a villa in Rashidiyah, where they were locked up in separate rooms. They were also beaten up badly," Khaleej Times quoted an unnamed co-worker of the Indians as saying.

Later the employers moved the three workers to the labour camp and locked them up in one of the rooms. Some of the workers tipped off the police, who rushed to the spot and released the men, he added. The police also arrested one of the company's supervisors and are investigating the matter.

The Consulate has decided to take up the matter and if the company was found guilty, necessary action would be taken against it, Mubarak assured.

Dinesh Katti, the company's managing director has denied the allegations, the report said.
