Shaun Marsh even did the unthinkable, shunt Ricky Ponting from his number 3 spot on his debut Test series in Sri Lanka last year.
But all that has faded from memory. The left-hander endured a wretched run in the home series against India — when every other batsman made hay — to be dumped for the current West Indies tour.
He even began his IPL V season poorly, and was dropped for the second game, against Pune Warriors away from home.
However, the 28-year-old is hopeful a good performance in the IPL will help him revive his international career. "This tournament is of huge importance as it was from my performance here that I first caught the eyes of selectors," he said.
Marsh said T20 actually helps a player's game. "T20 is a very fast game, you have to be very quick on the field and react. It is basically playing your natural game and hoping
everything falls into place. It is pressure game from ball one, experiencing pressure here helps a player to handle pressure well in other formats of the game."
