The Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) has called for a strike at the university on August 7 against what they call the irregularities at Shivaji College perpetrated by principal Rama Patnayak.
DUTA has charged Patnayak with financial irregularities, too. “About 160 classes and practical sessions of science students were not conducted last year due to the lack of faculty. But the principal is refusing to make the required appointments,” said Amar Deo Singh, DUTA president.
Meanwhile, in an emergency meeting of the governing body, Shivaji College has decided to set up a fact-finding committee that will give its report on the allegations in 45 days.
DUTA claims the college has been pushed to the verge of academic and financial collapse due to the policies and arbitrary decisions initiated by the college principal.
“The governing body of the college that is nominated by the Delhi government has been a mute spectator,” said Sharma. Shivaji College is a Delhi government run institution affiliated to Delhi University. Sharma said that DU authorities have also failed to act and control the situation at Shivaji College.
“It is unfortunate that the vice-chancellor of Delhi University has failed to perform his duty… He has become a mute spectator in the face of an academic and administrative breakdown of the college,” said a press release issued by DUTA.
