They reportedly told Sonia Gandhi that because of lack of dynamic leadership, an effective and consistent campaign against Shivraj Singh Chouhan's government has not been possible and now that protests and agitations were being planned at the district-level, it was only imperative that a leader with some charisma among the masses was sent to lead the party to 2013
election in MP. The attack was directed toward Kantilal Bhuria.

Kalpana Parulekar, who was one of the five MLAs to have met Sonia, however, said, they apprised Gandhi that Congress in MP has considerably failed to take credit for flagship welfare schemes of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government and the ruling BJP was using them to its advantage. She denied that they had come to oppose any leader or demand change of leadership.

The MLAs also met Kamalnath, Janardan Dwivedi, Kamalnath and All India general secretary in-charge of party affairs for MP BK Hariprasad during their stay in Bhopal.
