While Indians will vote to elect their representatives in the Lok Sabha, voters in Amethi believe their ballots would decide who will be the country's next Prime Minister.

"We are electing a Prime Minister. Hence the responsibility is bigger on us. We have to see that Rahul wins with a margin of five lakh votes this time," says Nazeer Ahmed a resident of Purechaha village falling under Tiloi assembly segment of the Amethi Parliamentary seat.

Banners in most of the village meetings of the party also attempt to give this message. Local leaders also appeal to voters to turn up in large numbers to vote for their would-be Prime Minister.

The message has got a fillip after Priyanka Gandhi's recent statement that Rahul is qualified enough to become the PM. Caste lines blur in this land of legacy and loyalty which earlier elected former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and before him, his younger brother Sanjay Gandhi.
