This is being done to review the preparedness of the machinery for assembly elections.

The full Commission, headed by Chief Election Commissioner BB Tandon, would be meeting Chief Secretaries, Home Secretaries, DGPs and CEOs in a bid to tone up poll arrangements in these five states.

Besides law and order, progress in the revision of electoral rolls and preparation of Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) would come up for discussion, EC sources said.

Tandon had already reviewed the poll preparations and visited these poll-bound states.

The Commission had recently expressed concern over the status of deletion from rolls the names of dead and shifted voters in West Bengal

"The work in this respect was found to be far from satisfactory in municipal areas," according to the Commission.

Voicing concern over the lack of satisfactory progress in revising the rolls, the EC had decided to continue the process of deletion of names of dead and shifted voters even after the final publication of the rolls in the state.
