Just The campaign reached its peak, the dynasty received a jolt. Taking a tough line, the Election Commission late on Friday night asked Congress chief Sonia Gandhi to remove all her party posters from the town by Saturday morning. In another move, that could affect Rahul Gandhi, the poll watchdog ordered politicians and party members receiving central security to leave the constituency.
It is bad news as Rahul is going full steam against Mulayam Singh Yadav earlier in the day. “I mean if they (the Samajwadi Party-led coalition government)are not doing their job, it is time for change,” he told reporters at an informal interaction in the midst of his hectic campaign. Rahul had been attacking the performance of the state government and he was asked whether it was time for change in Uttar Pradesh government.
To another question, he said people told him that the state government was not doing its job and “that is quite obvious". “A lot of work done here is centrally-sponsored. The work that should be done here is the responsibility of the state
government,” Rahul said.
On whether the ruling party would misuse official machinery and tamper with polling, he said, “I think the mood of the people is such that it would be very difficult for them to do so."
Asked if the Rae Bareli outcome would be a catalyst for a change in Uttar Pradesh, he shot back, "Llet us not not be premature." To a question if caste was a factor in the state politics and elections, the Amethi MP said, “I think caste is a factor, development is more important.”
