"The reply of Cabinet Secretary on the issue has been received. The Commission is examining it", EC spokesman R Bhattaharya told reporters when asked about the response of the poll watchdog.

Refusing to go into detail, he said the Commission would react further only after the examination of Singh's response.

In his response, Singh denied the EC's charge that he has prima facie violated the model code of conduct for elections by announcing plans for quota in the Centrally funded institutions.
