The Bharat Electrical Limited (BEL) and Electronic Corporation of India (ECIL) had prepared a prototype of the system where a voter would be able to see the candidate to whom he or she has cast his vote. However, the voter will not get copy of the paper receipt.

The prototype was approved by Election Commission on Tuesday and it was decided to conduct simulated election in five states – Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Meghalaya and Rajasthan – in July.

“The prototype should be tested in field in extreme environmental conditions to get an effective assessment. The trial should be in real election like conditions,” the commission said in a statement.
