State's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) JP Prakash told reporters in Guwahati on Monday that all old EVMs in the state have been changed and will not be used in any of the centres.

More than 23,000 EVMs will be used during the polls to be provided by ECIL and are all post-1999 manufactured.

ECIL engineers have tested and certified all the EVMs and they were with the District Collection Officers and after the ballot papers are printed they will be fitted in the EVMs, Prakash said.

Later, the EVM trained resource persons, eight for each constituency, will fit in the ballot papers in the presence of the ECIL engineers, candidates or their representatives, the CEO said.

Each EVM takes about 20 to 25 minutes to be fitted and the entire process will take about two days to be completed.

"There will be mobile forces but the emphasis is more on sufficient static forces so that there will be no need to call in additional forces if required", Prakash added.
