Maintaining that the economic policy of the UPA government has "failed," the CPI on Saturday said the Left parties would raise major issues like the agrarian crisis, including suicide by farmers, food crisis, price rise, disinvestment and general economic conditions in the country in the ensuing Monsoon Session of Parliament.

"Their economic policy has failed. There are several issues we would raise in Parliament -- the food procurement policy, food crisis, crisis in agriculture -- Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar owes an explanation on all these counts," party leader in Lok Sabha Gurudas Dasgupta, along with CPI National Secretary D Raja, told reporters in New Delhi.

After Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visited Vidarbha, 15 farmers committed suicide there, he said, adding only loan waivers was not enough to mitigate the problems faced by them.

Dasgupta and Raja said economic indicators like the index of industrial production was on the decline and even the IT sector was witnessing stagnation.

"The UPA must explain the successes and failures of its policies during the two-year rule", Dasgupta said.

They attacked the BJP for its decision to stall proceedings on the opening day of the session on July 24 on the Mumbai blasts issue and said, "The BJP or any other party should not politicise a terrorist attack. They are polluting the political atmosphere in the country."
