According to ED sources, Chakravarty was the brand ambassador for the Saradha Group. The wing of the union finance ministry wants to know what is the amount of money the actor got from the group, how did he get it and what is the service he rendered and the events and promotions he attended.

'We have asked him to appear at the earliest," an ED official told HT.

Sixty-eight year old Chakravarty became the Rajya Sabha MP in march 2014.

Significantly, when CBI interrogated expelled Rajya Sabha MP, Kunal Ghosh, he named Chakravarty as the brand ambassador and one of the beneficiaries.

The investigation in the Saradha scam by the Central Bureau of Investigation has turned out to be the biggest irritant between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP. Various top leaders of Bengal's ruling party appear to be involved in the Saradha scam, and Trinamool leaders feel BJP might "use" CBI to needle them.

According to the information available with ED officials, Saradha sponsored a few overseas trips of the actor.

The Saradha scam hit the headlines in April 2013. It went down with lakhs of depositors, mostly from middle, lower middle class and poor background, and sunk thousands of crores of rupees.
