In a first, education minister Naeem Akhtar on Thursday directed the authorities of a school in Jammu to start "curative classes" for academically-weaker students. Akhtar made the announcement during an interaction with the students and staff of Boys Higher Secondary School (BHSS) in Jammu's Gandhi Nagar area.
"The government has initiated various measures to make the academic journey of our students hassle-free, so that they can compete not only at the national level, but the international level as well and make our state proud," the minister added.
Akhtar took serious note of the "casual approach" adopted by the teachers at BHSS Gandhi Nagar who had skipped checking the homework of the students on a regular basis.
He directed the chief education officer of Jammu to visit the school after a week to personally monitor the progress made by the teachers in improving the quality of education at the school.
"The casual approach of teachers will not only affect the students but the future of our state as well. Teachers must realise that they have a bigger role in shaping our society. They must change their attitude towards their jobs," Akhtar added.
He also directed the authorities to setup a 'smart classroom' for the benefit of the school's students. The minister also reviewed the progress on the construction of auditorium and teacher Bhawan at the school. Akhtar also directed CEO, Jammu, to start evening classes at the school. He directed the staff of the school to teach and converse with students in English in subjects for which students had to write their papers in this language.
