PRINCIPAL OF Mahila Mahavidyalaya in Banaras Hindu University, Prof Sushila Singh, said that education should be based on values.

Addressing the orientation programme of newly-admitted students of BA, B.Sc. and M.Sc. (Bioinformatics) here on Saturday, Prof Singh said that each student should try to contribute towards the prosperity of nation.
Prof Singh gave a brief introduction of BHU’s founder Mahamana Pt Madan Mohan Malviya and remembered Malviyaji as the greatest educationist of 20th century.
“Malviyaji had established this university to impart both traditional and modern education,” she said.
She added that Malviyaji stressed upon the need to build character of youth and laid special attention towards women’s education. She said that the first priority of a student should be to become a good human being.
Prof Singh informed the newly-admitted students about some of the alumnus of Mahila Mahavidyalaya such as Durgabai Deshmukh, Dr Rajendra Kumar Bajpai, Sucheta Kriplani and Usha Mittal (wife of steel tycoon Laxmi Nivas Mittal).
The students were told about year-long programmes related to academic, cultural, sports, NCC, NSS and city delegacy.
Dr Sweeti Bandopadhyay conducted the programme whereas students’ advisor Dr Meena Arora proposed a formal vote of thanks.
