Aakansha, an educational tour, was a dream come true for 33 students living on the line of control on the Indo-Pak border, as it was their first experience of travelling by train.
Flagged off by the General-Officer-Commanding 39 Mountain division, Major General SKH Johnson at Naushera in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, the students in the age bracket of 12 to 17 years accompanied by three teachers and officials of the 10th battalion of the Sikh regiment, arrived here on Saturday.
The tour members were received by 317 field regiment in the steel city. Speaking to mediapersons here on Saturday, the commanding officer of the 317 field regiment Jatiner Singh Walia said the educational tour to Jamshedpur and Kolkata had been designed under the aegis of ‘Operation Sadbhavana’ run by the Indian Army in Jammu and Kashmir keeping in mind the children of the remote areas of the border villages of the state.
The tour aimed at fulfilling the aspirations, ambitions, dreams and hopes of those children who either did not get an opportunity to travel by train or even if they got it, they lacked the resources to avail of it, he said.
