Efforts were on to end the 13-day-old workers' strike at Maruti Suzuki India's Manesar plant till late Thursday evening as workers' representatives and management officials continued their discussion in presence of government officials as well as labour and employment minister Shiv Charan Lal Sharma.
Government sources said that the talks were in "right" direction and the strike was likely to be called off as both the sides were about to reach an amicable settlement.
The Haryana finance commissioner (labour), Sarban Singh, and labour commissioner Satwanti Ahalwat also participated in the talk which began at 2 pm on Thursday.
The sources said both sides had prepared a draft agreement that contained reinstatement of all 11 sacked workers and deduction of 26-day salary of all striking workers. The reinstated workers would be kept under strict observation for two months.
The management was represented by three company executives while the workers had seven persons from their side.
The strike has resulted to the loss of production of more than 15,000 cars, estimated to be worth around Rs700 crores. Production at three other MSIL plants in Gurgaon has been continuing uninterrupted.
About 2,000 workers, including contractual employees, had struck work on June 4, demanding a separate workers union for Manesar plant staff. They alleged that the common workers' union failed to address their grievances and had been playing puppet in the hands of the management.
