THE FOREST Department has finally swung into action to ‘save’ the Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary. Officials of both Forest and Irrigation departments are having the sanctuary tube-well repaired and canal cleaned.

Migratory birds, on their way to other areas, usually stop over at Nawabganj for a ‘break’.
But, if there isn’t sufficient water in the sanctuary lake, the birds may just fly past. Nature lovers are, therefore, very keen that the water supply to the sanctuary is improved.
“The tube-well here is for namesake only, as it provides insufficient water for filling the lake,” said one of the employees. But, he added, an incessant effort by the Forest and Irrigation Departments, to restore the water level, would bring the Nawabganj sanctuary back to life.
It may be mentioned that Nawabganj has been one of the most important bird sanctuaries in Uttar Pradesh owing to its proximity with Lucknow and Kanpur. HT Lucknow Live has been consistently trying to highlight the miserable state of the sanctuary. Finally, the authorities have decided to make efforts to improve the situation.
