Eight members of a family were charred to death when a fire gutted their hut in East Champaran district, police said on Thursday.

The fire engulfed the hut at Suryapur village when Akalu Ram, his wife and six children were asleep last night.

Eight members of the family were burnt alive in the fire, police said.
The bodies were recovered and brought to a government hospital here for post-mortem.
The victims were identified as Aklu Ram (45), wife Rambha Devi (40), their sons Chandan, Nandan, Ranjan, Kundan, Ravi and daughter Sanjita Kumari.
Another member of the family Budhan Ram was away from the village when the fire broke out.
