"We have put the police stations on a maximum alert. Patrolling will be intensified on roads to ensure movement of vehicular traffic," official sources said on Friday.

Static deployment of police would also be made at railway stations, they said.

Tomorrow being Saturday, most of the schools in Patna would remain closed.

LJP president Ramvilas Paswan slammed the Centre and the state government for their alleged failure to contain sky rocketing of prices of essential commodities.

"We have called the bandh to exert pressure on the Centre to withdraw the recent hike of prices of petrol, diesel, kerosene, and cooking gas," Paswan said.

The bandh was also called to protest against the state government's alleged failure on all fronts.

He appealed to the people to cooperate to make the bandh a success.
