FORMER CABINET minister and leader of opposition in UP assembly, Lalji Tandon said free and fair assembly election was not possible under SP-led government. He demanded that forthcoming assembly election should be conducted under President rule.
Meanwhile, he also demanded more teeth for local bodies and municipal corporation and demanded that a finance commission should be constituted for urban development.
Tandon was here to participate in swearing-in ceremony of newly elected mayor Anju Chaudhary. While talking to mediapersons at Circuit house, he hinted that assembly election in the state could take place before the scheduled time.
Tandon blamed that the State government was run by mafias and stressed that the election commission should take stringent action for free and fair assembly election, otherwise the irregularities like in local body election could be repeated, he added.
Continuing his offensive against state government, Tandon said irregularities on large scale were reported in town areas and nagar palika election.

{{/usCountry}}Advocating more economic power to corporation and local bodies, Tandon said when 74 amendments were made in the constitution, two commissions were formed including election commission for civic bodies election and the finance commission.
He said finance commission had also submitted its report to the then government but successive state government failed to implement the suggestions made by the finance commission for local bodies.
Hitting hard on SP government, he said municipal corporation were not getting the funds provided by the Union government and most of the corporations were passing throw rough weather.
He said Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Reconstruction Mission had recommended various issues to include the functioning of municipal corporation and it should be implemented.
Tandon also addressed BJP workers who staged dharna at district magistrate office demanding to hang Afzal who was convicted in Parliament attack case.
