Emergency landing in Iceland for BA flight

No one was injured aboard the Denver, Colorado-bound Boeing 777.

A British Airways flight headed to the United States was forced to make an emergency landing in Iceland because of smoke in the cabin, officials said.

British Airways spokesman Leo Seaton said the flight, BA219, was en route on Saturday when smoke inside the cabin was reported.

The pilot requested permission to land at Keflavik Airport, about 48 kilometres from the Icelandic capital, Reykjavik.

"There was not a fire aboard, but some smoke from the oven in the rear galley," Seaton said, adding that the 269 passengers were expected to spend the night in Iceland and depart for Denver International Airport on Sunday.
