Dr Prasad, who had come to attend the alumni meet at the CSA here, told newsmen that it was not possible to raise agricultural production only by developing hybrid varieties of various crops. To ensure better yield, a balanced growth of cattle and agriculture was required. Unfortunately, during the past decade, everyone concentrated on developing newer and hybrid varieties of crops but ignored development of cattle wealth. This created problems of soil upgradation and weed elimination and affected the total crop production in the country, he said. Dr Prasad said till last year the government did not pay serious attention to increasing agricultural production but in view of scarcity of food-grains and rising prices, it had now come to realise the importance of agriculture and had intensified efforts to raise crop production.
