UPSEF president Yogendra Kumar said the strike was well supported by employees and teachers. Functioning in offices was paralysed, while schools wore a deserted look, he added. The members stuck to their demands for merger of 50 per cent DA with basic pay with effect from April 1, 2004, and allowances on the pattern of Central Government staff. They threatened to wage a prolonged agitation if their demands were not met soon.

State President of the Federation of Ministerial Services’ Association Girish Chandra Srivastava demanded halting forcible transfer of employees to Uttaranchal, while president of Class IV Employees’ Federation Vishnu
Prasad demanded grant of selection grade and leave encashment facility.

The meeting was addressed by many employees’ leaders including, president of Vikas Bhawan Karmachari Sangh SP Singh, Manmohan Singh, Dinkar Dwivedi and others. The next meeting will be held at the Local Fund Office at Sangam Place at 11 am on Wednesday.
