To ensure that the police commissionerate system in Gurgaon meets its purpose of modern policing, the police commissioner should be made independent of the district administration, which is probably not the case in Gurgaon.

If the Commissioner has to go to the district magistrate to get Section 144 imposed in the event of rioting, a lot of time gets wasted in the action.

The Police Commissioner should be vested with the power to impose Section 144 on his own as is the case in Delhi and Mumbai.

The Gurgaon Police Commissioner should have an independent budget to implement police infrastructure related projects such as buying more vehicles, telecommunication equipment and adding more manpower which is not the case in Gurgaon. We cannot call it the absolute Commissionerate System.

Ajay Raj Sharma, Former Delhi Police Commissioner

Gurgaon is an extension of Delhi and a lot of people who move from Delhi to Gurgaon feel a huge difference in the policing system of both the cities.

Gurgaon police lacks adequate infrastructure such as manpower, vehicles and communication equipment and people here find a huge difference on this front between the two cities.

Otherwise it would tell upon the efficiency of the Gurgaon police.

A strong police infrastructure in Delhi makes the response time to 12 minutes despite large region while it is more than 20 minutes in Gurgaon which is relatively not as congested as Delhi is.

The police commissioner in Gurgaon should emphatically take up the matter of infrastructure up-gradation in terms of manpower, PCR Vans and communication systems.

The local legislators should take up the same issue with the chief minister of the state.
