Empowering women workers

The International Women’s Day is celebrated all over the world. In order to make women safe in Delhi & NCR, Northern Railway has taken several initiatives which ensures a safer journey. It also promotes the growing participation of women in different fields with their initiatives.

The International Women’s Day is celebrated all over the world. In order to make women safe in Delhi & NCR, Northern Railway has taken several initiatives which ensures a safer journey. It also promotes the growing participation of women in different fields with their initiatives.

As a mass transport organisation, Northern Railway has been highly sensitive to the needs of the women workforce, which commutes daily to the NCR for their work. The Railway had allotted special coaches exclusively for women in trains in the past. With the growing participation of women in several fields viz. industry, services, etc and in keeping with safety concerns that are associated with their daily travel, the Railway has introduced Ladies special trains in urban and suburban areas of Delhi. Presently there are three pairs of Ladies Specials running over Delhi Division.

To secure journey of women passengers Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northern Railway is deploying adequate number of women RPF personnel. Three pairs of ladies trains are running between New Delhi- Ghaziabad, New Delhi- Palwal and New Delhi- Panipat. RPF has constituted two special teams of women RPF personnel named ‘Bhairavi’ and ‘Virangna’ to avert the activities of anti-social elements in ladies coaches. RPF also assist commercial department for legal action and defaulters are taken up under the provisions of Railways Act.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Northern Railway reiterates its commitment to fostering conducive environment for women employees, where they can work with dignity.

In the year ahead, they look forward to enhance the facilities for women employees and make them feel that they are a valued part of the Railway family.
