Encroachers? list sought

THE VICE-CHAIRMAN of Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) directed its officials to submit a list of encroachers and issue notices to land mafia who had grabbed government land for their personal use.

He ordered them to put up notice boards in slum areas of the city with in a week so that these lands could be identified easily.

The KDA V-C issued the directives following a complaint by the members of Maleen Basti Mahapanchayat (UP) and Janata Dal (U) jointly, against the land mafia who had grabbed the land of slum areas. Not only this, the land mafia were also engaged in selling the illegally acquired land. A delegation of the members of the two organisations met the KDA V-C today and apprised him of the irregularities committed in the slum areas by the land mafia. The members said they had made repeated requests for putting up notice boards in slum areas, but to no avail.

They further alleged that earlier KDA had acquired 112 slum areas and slum dwellers were promised right ot use land area under their possession.

Consequently, many of the slum dwellers gave a down payment of more than Rs 75 lakh in 2005 and around Rs 5 lakh had been paid in the current year so far.

Those who were in the delegation included Kallu Ambedkar, Jahid Ali Ansari, Surendra Vishvakarma, Raj Kishore and Kashyap.
