The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) seems to have caught the attention of Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah too, with the CM laying emphasis on the measures taken by the government to root out corruption at a public rally in Vijaypur, Samba, on Saturday.
"To curb corruption has remained our first target. We brought historic initiatives to empower people to be important players in achieving this goal," Omar said.
He claimed that the government had equipped people with "effective legislations to identify corrupt elements and seek their punishment through independent institutions", established in the state by the government during the last five years.
Omar said the Public Services Guarantee and Right to Information Acts and the reconstitution of the Accountability and Vigilance Commissions were set up to give powers to people, so they could utilise these institutions to book corrupt elements and seek punishment for them.
"Nearly 80 basic services from 13 departments have been brought under the ambit of the Public Services Guarantee Act, to be delivered to the consumer in a fixed timeframe," said Omar, who has been asking his party cadre to educate people about this Act, and listed it as "one of the most important achievements" of his government.
Omar said the Act was aimed at bringing the functioning and functionaries of the government under full public scan. "These institutions were established to make government functioning transparent, give good governance and ensure time-bound service delivery. People should utilise these laws to curb corruption and bring transparency in the administration," said Omar.

{{/usCountry}}People's Democratic Party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, taking a dig at AAP, had earlier claimed that the PDP had already done what the other party had done in terms of bringing transparency and rooting out corruption.
