They had called off the agitation following assurance from the UP Minister for Agriculture and Agriculture Education Yogesh Pratap Singh, regarding granting of recognition to the mechanical department of the college.

The students sat on a dharna demanding recognition to mechanical department of the college by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), to enable them to get better placement opportunity after completing the course through campus interview.

About 60 students of the college had come to CSA, with which their college affiliated, to ask V-C MM Agarwal for expediting the recognition process. The V-C told them that there was no need of recognition by AICTE if the college and the course was recognised by the university.

However, the students pleaded that an expert team of AICTE had visited the college a year ago and had granted recognition to computer science and electronic courses. Recognition was refused to the mechanical course as it lacked the requisite number of teachers and other infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the students also met the minister who gave them assurance and issued a letter to V-C directing him to expedite the matter.

It is hoped that the recognition issue would be taken up at the AICTE meeting scheduled for May 31.
