The engine of the 458 Akola-Ratlam train caught fire this afternoon between Choral and Mukhtyara railway stations on Khandwa-Indore route following a short circuit, Railway officials said.

The driver stopped the train and tried to control the fire with the help of the passengers and nearby villagers but the fire reached the first bogie of the train which was full of passengers who panicked and got out of bogie.

The railway rescue team was rushed to the spot in a special train.
