POLICE HAVE nabbed an engineering student and his accomplice for a string of loots and chain-snatching incidents. The youths told the police they committed crime for making a fast buck for splurging.
Using his fast motor-biking skills, Pankaj Verma alias Pinku (19), a second-year student of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology, accompanied by his friend Yatindra Singh Bisht (19), used to target women pedestrians on lonely roads. They would snatch away their purses and mobile phones. Bisht, a tenth-pass youth, would snatch valuables from the victims while Verma rode bike speedily to escape from the spot.
CSP (Habibganj) Avdesh Pratap Singh said police had been in search of two youths on motorcycle, who had been involved in seven cases of loot in the area in recent past. Based on clues and a ‘star’ mark behind the motorcycle, the police team nabbed the two youths. After initial interrogation, they came to know about the incidents of loot.
The police have recovered two mobile phone handsets, one Mangalsutra and cash of Rs 2500 from the accused. The CSP said the accused, after their loot operation, used to share belongings between themselves at Kasturba School ground, Jawahar Chowk. “Both used to loot to earn fast bucks for merry-making,” said Additional SP Dr G K Pathak.

{{/usCountry}}Bisht’s father is a retired inspector, who had worked with special branch at Police Headquarters and currently engaged in agriculture. Verma’s father works as a storekeeper at Vidhan Sabha and his mother is principal at a high school.
