A girl student of first year of Bhagalpur Engineering college (BEC) had complained to the District Magistrate and Sub-divisional Officer (Bhagalpur) against Indrajit Kumar, a second year student of computer science, for ragging her, Acting Principal B K Choudhary said today.

Following her complaint, the authorities had directed the college administration to take stern action against the student.

The disciplinary committee of the college, which met here yesterday, found Indirajit guilty of ragging and slapped a fine of Rs 20,000, Choudhary said.

"We have also asked him to vacate the college hostel and informed his guardian in Patna about his misdeeds," the acting principal said, while warning that he would be expelled from the college upon any further such complaint.

The institute's acting principal A K Mishra said second year students had allegedly asked some girl students of the first year to kiss them and later thrashed another student Madhukar Kumar, who opposed them.
