Entrance exams begin at BHU

THE ENTRANCE examinations for various undergraduate and postgraduate courses of prestigious Banaras Hindu University began on Friday. Entrance examinations of B.Ed. and B.Ed. (special) courses were conducted at 28 centres across the country today.

THE ENTRANCE examinations for various undergraduate and postgraduate courses of prestigious Banaras Hindu University began on Friday. Entrance examinations of B.Ed. and B.Ed. (special) courses were conducted at 28 centres across the country today.

More than 16000 candidates appeared against 486 seats for these two courses at Varanasi, New Delhi and Kolkata centres. On an average, 34 candidates are contesting for each seat of these two courses. Controller of examination, Dr KP Upadhyay said that the examination was conducted smoothly. As many as 24 centres were set up in Varanasi whereas two centres each were set up in New Delhi and Kolkata. The B.Ed. and B.Ed. (special) entrance examinations were conducted at Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Multi-Purpose Hall, Old CHC Building, Institute of Technology, Old PG Building, Social Science Faculty, New Building of Social Science Faculty, Ayurveda Faculty, Law Faculty, Zoology Department and Botany Department.

Statistics department, Hindi department, faculty of management studies, BHU Central School, Education Faculty (Kamachcha), CHS (girls and boys) School, Central School (DLW), St. Jhons School (DLW), DLW Inter College, Arya Mahila Degree College and CM Anglo Bengali Inter College were among other examination centres.

All the priority issues such as fund mobilisation, publications and cultural events were finalised in a meeting of the national organizing committee, which was held in central office of BHU recently.

The former Union Minister of State for External Affairs and BHU alumnus Hari Kishore Singh announced Rs 11,000 for the coffers of the conference whereas local industrialist Ashok Gupta made a contribution of Rs 1.0 lakh for the proposed conference. BHU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Panjab Singh has made a grant of Rs 1.0 lakh as seed money for the conference.

He has also made an appeal for support from all corners of the world to put BHU on top amongst all the educational institutions in the country and abroad.

The chairman of Malviya Mission, PL Jaiswal, who is co-host of the event, outlined various steps including contact with chapters of alumni spread all over the world and detailed programme. Local organizing secretary, Prof. Chandrakala Padia explained about the international seminar titled ‘Education in the 21st Century and Mahamana as Vision’ to be held on the occasion.
