Short skirts, fancy shorts and tiny tops were missing at this year’s marathon, with runners opting for casual attire. Most wore track-pants and baggy T-shirts representing the organisations and causes they were running for.
“Last year there were many people in shorts and girls in tank tops. This time, people were dressed more casually,” said Rushina Kapashi, who has been participating for the last three years.
Some runners painted their faces – be it with the colours of the Indian flag or the devil. Others experimented with head-gear. Manasvi Mehta (18) wore a Statue of Liberty hat with shining spikes while her friend wore a crab hat. “I just wore it because it looks cool,” she said. Two other girls were seen with sunflower hats.
Kashyapi Dave (12) chose to wear red and black ball gown with hat, make-up et al. “We are allowed to wear anything so I decided to dress like a fairy,” she said.
Moreover, considering the marathon was not just about running for most Mumbaikars, many tried to spread the message close to their heart through their clothes. The “wantas” gang of four boys had different messages like save trees, electricity, save water and so on. So, Amrut Chouge was carrying a fake cylinder and had the words “Use Wantas, Save LPG” painted on his clothes. Another group dressed like mosquitoes to spread awareness about dengue and chikungunya.

{{/usCountry}}Many participants went all out to dress funky to bag the “Most funky dressed” prize. So there was a baby Hanuman, policemen, dabbawalas, army men and so on.
Priyanka Shah wore every fruit available with strawberries for earrings, grape garlands and carrots to line her orange skirt. “The marathon is all about being fit and healthy so I decided to wear fruits”. The grape juice may have been all over her, but the ‘Zoom Diva’ winner did not care because her eyes were on the prize.
