Ah! Chilly drink
I am famous as a good cook, it was May 1 around 15 years ago. We were expecting some guests in the evening. I don’t know what came into my mind that I served them diluted chilled vinegar as a cold drink and the poor guests thinking it to be one of my new recipes finished it all!

Basically I am a serious man in my life but I remember of a prank with my Bhabhi on April 1. I called her to a party at my residence. She immediately smelled some mischief as the party was scheduled on April 1, but we all assured her that party would be on and there is nothing like fooling her by inviting her and not having a party. She reached our residence after getting sure that the party was on. We welcomed her as usual as she arrived and presence of other people made her relaxed and that’s what we wanted. We served her rasgullas, which she was fond of eating. She taken one full rasgulla and smashed it in her mouth. And aaaah was the ear- deafening cry out of her mouth. As the rasgulla i was full of chilly, it was bitter and vow! She spat it out. We offered her sweet rasgullah afterwards but till now whenever I offer her rasgullas she becomes careful and make me remember that prank.

On April 1 I was going for the show on the invitation of a minister. I was in my car suddenly I was stopped by some policeman. As I was not having my seat belt on. I asked them to fine me and let me go, as I had to reach for the show on time. But the policeman asked me to pay some thing as a bribe, which I had to as I had no time. I went ahead after the incident suddenly I started feeling bad about bribing anyone. I just turned back my car and reached at the same spot and called the same policeman and through my magic I took out a currency note of Rs 500 from his pocket and made it into a Rs 5 note out of paper in my hands. The policeman was just dumb after watching all this . He became nervous and stood in front of me with folded hands but after sometime I revealed my identity of magician and left for the show.

I was SP City during those days when on a April 1 we got an ‘action’ call on wireless from the Police Control Room. The message was to rush to the spot near Anand Motors, Hussainganj as there a businessman had been shot at and looted. I rushed with my team and when we reached the spot, another wireless message reached ‘greeting us’ bravo ‘Happy Fools’ Day.

MY FIRST encounter with Fool’s Day was back in 1984 that I never forget. My immediate boss and head of Gastroenterology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi called the entire staff of the department for his birthday party on April 1. All of us knew the fact he was born on that date but I was sure that if I go I would be the only fool. The fact was that it was a real party and I missed it just because of the apprehension. The only positive point to console myself was that nobody else too turned up for the party with the same apprehension.

MARCH 31st is the last day of the financial year and I took full advantage of it on April 1st. On April Fool’s Day, I called up my friend’s father who is a big shot businessman. I acted as if I am the Income Tax officer and said, “Sir, we found major discrepancies in your income tax account. And some action needs to be taken so I want you to show up at my office at 2:00pm.” My friend’s father got so scared that he didn’t know what to do. He fanatically started calling up his friends. And my friend was a witness to all of this. Finally, on suggestion of my friend he didn’t do anything else but followed the instructions given to him by the officer and reached the income tax office and met the officer. He got so confused when the officer told him, that he had never called him. Baffled, he returned to the car and then it struck him that it was Fool’s Day. However, he is still not aware as to who played the prank on him.

Chickening!
MY COUSIN is crazy about food. She can go to any extent to have good food. So on the Fool’s Day my family and I decided to play a prank on her. We told her, “See, if you don’t eat for three hours we will treat you for chicken (that she is very fond of).” She readily agreed to it. However, in those three hours she visited a number of places that were serving good food. But as she had promised she didn’t eat anything. Excited, she came to the dinner table to find a plate of yellow ‘khichdi’ in front of her eyes for dinner. She asked for chicken and we told her that we had made a fool out of her and ‘kichdi’ was planned for dinner. She got so irritated that she didn’t have anything for dinner that night.
