Thank God for Delhi is indulging in some intelligent conversation. What with Copenhagen talks round the corner and newspaper headlines screaming reduction of carbon dioxide emission by 20-25 per cent by the year 2020, environment is the topic on every stiff upper lip.
However, that hasn’t stopped Delhi’s Moolah Rouge ladies to boast about booking the latest Rolls Royce offering — the Ghost that costs half a million dollars. What astonishes me is how these chatterati manage to speak about climate control and Ghost in the same breath. Ghost is a gas-guzzler and definitely not going to help restore Delhi’s glorious winter that has almost dissappeared. My investment in a designer trench has gone total waste!
And by the way, did you know that the train and the metro are the most environment friendly way of traveling? Warren Buffett, the world’s most successful investor is investing in trains! But I have very serious doubts that climate-control debaters will ever take the train instead of the plane.
Why just blame the high-fliers (no pun intended), our fashionistas are doing the same. In fact, I must say that ‘Green is the new Black’ has become a clichéd adage and bamboo yarn, organic cotton and vegetable dyes are in every fashionistas vocabulary. They do buy expensive clothes that are eco-friendly, but all the positives are literally washed off when they are sent to the dry-cleaners.

{{/usCountry}}I don’t take any designer tom-tomming about his Eco collection seriously till I check if the care instructions read ‘Dry Clean Only’ I pooh-pooh it! The carbon emission from white petrol negates the benefits of Eco fashion. By the way, the cattle were anyway top on the list for methane emission. Now pets like dogs are known to release much more methane in the atmosphere than human beings. Man’s best friend is not the best anymore!
