THE MAIN papers of the Lucknow University (LU) final examinations will begin from Saturday.
The much-hyped closed-circuit cameras installed last year during the final examination will remain non-operational as all electronic gadgets supporting the cameras have not been installed properly.
Although this was welcomed by student leaders, questions were being raised as to why such huge amount of money was spent in purchasing these cameras.
About 1.25 lakh examinees will take the final examinations at 32 examination centres of which six have been already declared sensitive.
Colleges labelled as sensitive are DAV, Shia, Mumtaz, Kali Charan, Vidyant Hindu College and JNPG College. Besides, observers have been appointed to supervise the progress of the examination at most girls’ colleges following last year’s incident of large-scale copying. The six colleges declared sensitive was a fallout of last year’s experience wherein large-scale anomalies were detected at these centres. If at DAV teachers refused to conduct the examination then at another centre a teacher was caught facilitating examinees to copy.
Meanwhile, varsity officials stated all necessary arrangements had been made to ensure the smooth flow of examinations. Six flying squad teams have been constituted that would visit different centres to prevent mass copying. They would have freedom to frisk the examinees as well.

{{/usCountry}}Controller of examinations, RBS Verma said, “Elaborate arrangements have been made for peaceful implementation of examinations and to declare the results at the earliest. Teachers on invigilation duty have been told not to spare those examinees resorting to copying.”
When asked whether close circuit cameras installed on the campus would be operational, he said, “Since most of the gadgets are not installed properly, cameras will remain non-operational. But this does not mean that examinees will be set free if they are held by the invigilators on duty while copying.”
No frisking, please!
A student leader has warned the varsity administration and its flying squad teams not to resort to frisking of the examinees during the course of the examination. He said teachers must not trouble the examinees while they were taking the papers as this caused inconvenience and amounted to loss of valuable time. In a memorandum given to LU V-C, LUSU general secretary Vinod Tripathi has appealed to LU officials not to disturb the examinees.
