Excess fees: Private B Ed colleges put on notice

TAKING serious note of the complaints about some private B Ed colleges in the State charging more than the prescribed fee for admission to B Ed course, Minister of State for Higher Education & Technical Education Tukojirao Pawar issued instructions of stern action.

The Minister said tough measures including de-recognition would be taken against such private colleges if complaints were found to be correct.

The Minister has asked private B Ed colleges to stick to charging the fee prescribed in accordance with the directives issued by the State Government, High Court earlier in this regard. District collectors have been asked to act promptly on such complaints, Pawar said.

On receipt of complaints of this nature, the Minister said a thorough enquiry should be conducted into irregularities and in case of detection of any violation a report on this should be sent to the Higher Education Department.

He said the B Ed. colleges committing such irregularities should be de-recognised and their affiliation be cancelled. The Higher Education Department prescribed a fee of Rs 15,000 for the course. In this context, a case is already pending before the High Court and the court has permitted private B Ed colleges to charge an additional fee of Rs 10,000 on the condition that this additional amount would be deposited into the joint account of the student and the institution.
