DISTRICT MAGISTRATE Amrit Abhijat has asked all departments concerned to execute projects for Ardh Kumbh 2007 and ensure that the work was of a permanent nature.

He was holding a meeting with officials of the Public Works Department, the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited, the Allahabad Development Authority, the Nagar Nigam, the Jal Nigam and others at his camp office here. He instructed them to undertake permanent work. The DM asked the PWD to maintain the quality of the MG Marg, Kutchery, Lowther Road and 12 others. It was also asked to construct footpaths. PWD Superintending Engineer Shushil Kumar demanded Rs 37 crore for construction of roads.
The department had presented a total demand of Rs 88 crore to the State Government. Besides, he said the department would require 838 pontoons for the mela. Municipal commissioner Gaya Prasad was told by the DM to purchase high mask, dowser, hot mix plant as permanent facilities in accordance with the Nagar Nigam’s proposal for a Rs 62 crore budget for the Ardh Kumbh. Jal Nigam executive engineer GP Gupta said 38 tubewells would be installed by the Nigam in the mela area under a Rs 36-crore budget for the department.
