MICHAL GUR-ARYEH, spokesperson of Embassy of Israel (New Delhi) and Rector of Banaras Hindu University Prof S Lele inaugurated a six-day exhibition titled ‘Israel: Archaeology from the Air’ at Bharat Kala Bhawan in BHU here this afternoon.
A collection of the best known and most interesting archaeological sites in Israel as seen from the air are being displayed in the exhibition. The Embassy of Israel has organised the event in collaboration with Bharat Kala Bhawan of BHU.
Speaking on the occasion, Gur-Aryeh said that Israel was a small country, with the highest density of known archaeological sites per square kilometre. The land of Israel was the birth place of two of the greatest monotheistic faiths of the world known as Judaism and Christianity.
She added that traces of ancient towns, religious monuments, battlefields and vast secular and literary heritage of communities that lived there attracted scholars from all over the world and archaeological study had been continuously conducted in the region.
Prominent among others who were present on the occasion included Assistant Director of Bharat Kala Bhawan Dr TK Biswas, Dr RP Singh, Dr Gurmeet Singh and Dr Savita Sharma.
