Titled 21 Battle of Saragarhi, it will recreate the battle fought during the Tirah Campaign on September 12, 1897.

Dutt’s the way Twenty-one Sikhs of the Fourth Battalion (then called the 36th Sikhs) of the Sikh regiment of British India, defended an army post against 10,000 Afghan and Orakzai tribesmen. The battle was fought in the North-West Frontier Province, now a part of Pakistan.

“The contingent of the 21 Sikhs was led by Havaldar Ishar Singh. Dutt will be playing the role. Even though they all met with a bloody end, each Sikh killed more than 195 people before they took their last breath,” recounts Jugraj.

Jugraj is ready with the script but the film will take off only in 2010. Explaining the long gap, Jugraj says, “First, it’s a period film and second, it will be made on a mammoth scale. We need at least a year of pre-production.”
