The expelled constable was arrested after police investigations revealed that he could have been involved in the murder, directly or otherwise. The constable, close to an influential MLC, and known to hobnob with criminals, was interrogated by the Alambagh police for several hours on Sunday.

Police investigations have further revealed the possible involvement of a Lucknow University (LU) student leader. However, the main worry for the cops is that the prime accused, one Santosh Singh, is still at large. Though the cops have declared a reward of Rs 2500 on him and conducted several raids at possible hideouts, they are still clueless about Santosh. ASP, Trans-Gomti, Ajay Kumar Singh said that Santosh’s arrest would unravel the murder mystery.

The cops suspect that the murder was carried out due to the dispute over a piece of land behind the petrol pump, which Agastya owned on the Kanpur Road. Ranjeet, who was Agastya’s business partner, has also given several clues to the police. Police is also trying to track down the person who played the role of an intermediary between Santosh and Agastya in settling the dispute over the land behind the petrol pump.
