Aiming to bring together the daily experiences of people of Jammu and Kashmir, who have suffered since the beginning of conflict in 1989, the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla, will organise a three-day seminar on “Ordinary Lives in a Conflict Zone: Voices from Kashmir” at the institute from Monday.
Twenty-two participants from Jammu and Kashmir and from other states would attend the seminar to deliberate the human dimensions of the conflict, said an official spokesman.
“People of Kashmir get neglected during debates on Kashmir, therefore IIAS has initiated to provide a platform to the common people to articulate their thoughts about the changing outlines of Kashmir conflict and impact on the life of the people of Kashmir and other states,” he added.
Highlighting the agenda of the seminar, he said it would not revolve around the political scenario of Kashmir, but would also put light on the ordinary life of the people of the Kashmir.
“The highlights of the seminar are the testimonies of the widows, half-widows, migrants, youth and children who have faced the worst brunt of the conflict,” he said.

The seminar would bring writers, critics, psychiatrists, social activists, policy-makers, academicians, journalists, students and common people together to share their personal experiences of exile and social bewilderment, the spokesman said.
