A day after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh indicated that all was not over on the nuclear front, the BJP on Thursday charged him with flip-flop and asked the UPA government to explain its stand on the nuclear deal.
"In India, the prime minister said failure to implement the deal is not end of life. In Nigeria, he told US President (George) Bush that there are difficulties in implementing the deal.
"In South Africa, he spoke about evolving a meaningful consensus on the deal. We would like to know which is the real voice of the prime minister and what should we believe," party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said in New Delhi.
Prasad went on to add that the prime minister's remarks were a classic commentary on the "chaotic and confused state of this government". "The country wants to know where does this government stand on the nuclear deal," he added.
The main Opposition party had earlier dubbed Singh as the "weakest prime minister" India has ever had and alleged that the UPA government has touched its "lowest point" because of the nuclear standoff.
BJP has been opposing the civil nuclear deal with the US, insisting that it would make the country subservient to the US and make the country a part of the nuclear non-proliferation regime.
