A bag containing about eight kilograms of explosive material was recovered on Wednesday from Chhatrapati Shivaji Railway Terminus in Mumbai, a week after it was attacked by two terrorists killing over 50 in the area last week.
The bags were found approximately an hour before Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh was scheduled to arrive at CST. After ensuring that the bomb would not explode, the bags were taken away by the Bomb Disposal Squad after Deshmukh left the rail terminus.
"The bag containing an iron container had explosive material, ball bearings and a battery which has been taken away by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad," Inspector General of Police (RPF) B S Siddhu told PTI.
The bag was found among the abandoned bags of persons injured or killed in the terror attack on November 26 night by two terrorists, Siddhu said.
The nature of the explosive substance will be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for verification and the bomb was similar to that found near the Taj hotel in south Mumbai on November 26, Siddhu said.
After the attack on CST, many bags had been abandoned by injured and frightened commuters and they were collected and stored at the Government Railway Police (GRP) station at CST.
